For the past few weeks, Mary's mind has been torn between two important subjects. The first as been her desire to see that Phyllis - Max's crippled sister - has every opportunity for regaining her health. The second problem is in regard to Max, who in an attempt to apprehend the gambling syndicate, was arrested himself as a member of the gang. The district attorney released him on bail, until Charles Cheney - one of the ringleaders - would be caught.
