The police police car in which Captain Kinelley and Officer Egan are traveling in responding to the alarm of a fire is struck by another car. Officer Egan who was operating the police car is seriously hurt in the wreck. The driver of the other car failed to pull over and told the police that he never heard the police siren. Captain Kinelley asks the ambulance man attending the scene to take a look at the other driver, Joseph Creedy. The fire was a false alarm.
