in spite of a series of mysterious mishaps during rehearsals producer Edmond Gerrard was hoping desperately for a Broadway hit until on opening night Richard Kirk his brilliant young director walked in to his office. Edmond knew that as a director Kirk had done a brilliant job but nonetheless he was seriously thinking of calling off the whole production as he had a feeling that they would seriously regret it to the end of their days if they didn't. Last week at an auction Edmond had bought the original copy of the play, The Trail Of The Knifer,  and in it he had found a handwritten note written by the author himself. It said, "WARNING, it is my regrettable duty to inform all future producers that this play is a highly dangerous vehicle. Improbable as it may seem the leading character is likely to come to life and create havoc with a weapon that has nothing to do with the harmless make-believe of the theater.." What in the world could this mean...
