Peg Goes To Work

Broadcast: 15th December 1950
Added: Dec 18 2010
Peg is not going to wait until the day before Christmas to do her Christmas shopping so she asks Chester for some money. He tells her “you can’t get blood out of a stone”. He’s broke so Peg tells Chester that she understands and she’ll get herself a job. He tells her that no wife of his is going to work. However earlier that morning Chester had been approached by a roaming reporter who asked him if married women should work. He told them “certainly they should work, what else have they got to do with their time”. He went on to say, “Married women would be a lot happier and healthier if they helped the husband meet the budget”. Oh dear it was all printed in the paper with Riley’s picture so Peg tells Riley she’s going to work, like he wants!
