The opening scene of tonight's murder case, is the drawing room of a richly appointed mansion overlooking Gramercy Park. The master of the house, an elderly philanthropist called Julian Ford, has asked his niece Ethel and her husband, Alan, to join him. He has generously shared his home with them for some time now, but he has some news. There will soon be a new household member. A young woman called Jennifer Grey who he met in Gramercy Park, and who he has seen every day since. The two, who have always considered themselves to be the only heirs to his fortune, are incensed!
