The intermission commentary is by the author of the play Elizabeth Bowen who says, “The central image of two children, Henrietta and Leopold, strangers to one and other shut up for a day in a house in the heart of an unknown city. Who were these children and how had it happened that they arrived here. What was to be the signal for their release?” In answering those queries Elizabeth Bowen found her story.
