Vote Gracie Allen for President

Vote Gracie Allen for President

Every four years for the past two centuries, men have contended for the Presidency of our country. Well this year, Gracie has decided she is running for the job of President of the United States of America.

She wants to be the first ever woman to be President, and the more George hounds her about how impossible her ambition is, the more determined and convinced dear Gracie becomes … and she’s not alone. She manages to get the rest of the cast behind her by promising them all 'Government jobs'.

Of course, this is all a sketch from an old time radio show - Government Jobs (live on 3rd November) - but it's one I'd recommend you listen to, because it's so lighthearted in the midst of all the current election chaos.

There are several 'Election Special' shows over the next few days, but Phil Helps Get Out The Vote is my favorite because of the important message shared.

Phil Harris has been asked to serve on the election committee, and his role means that he needs to get out and visit folks' homes, to urge them to vote. But first, he needs to convince the election committee that he is knowledgeable enough to answer any questions the public may throw at him.

He closes the show with the following message:-

"Folks this is Phil again, and I just want to tell you that Elliot and I did study those pamphlets, because we realize how important this coming election day is. It's great to know we're living in a place where you can go out and vote for the man you want. There's nobody standing behind you telling you what you gotta do. So get out on Tuesday and go to the polls. Vote for whoever you please. But please vote. Thanks and goodnight."

With just a couple of days remaining until we ourselves choose the next occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the polls are indicating that this year's election is likely to be close. Let us pray that whatever the voting results in, we stay strong together as a country, and the elected President brings a strong future to our thriving and beautiful land.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
