Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day 2009

Veteran's Day was originally known as Armistice Day, the day when we celebrated the signing of the armistice that ended World War I on November 11th, 1918.

In 1954 it became Veterans Day's to recognize the huge sacrifices made by all veterans who fought all of our wars and defended our ideals worldwide. Too many have paid the ultimate price, and none should be forgotten.

To help you commemorate Veteran’s day I will be adding an episode from a new series to RUSC of Empire Builders entitled Armistice Day. It is a tribute to the men who served in World War I.

Unfortunately this 1930 recording is not great sound quality but the story brings a picture of what actually happened along the many miles of frontline trenches when word was received that the War was over. More poignantly it was written by an American army officer who was actually there.

If you are wondering what to think about in the two-minute silence on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month then just ponder this, for the sake of peace for all mankind it is important to remember the past so that we can renew and preserve the future.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
