The MLB All-Star Game 2021

The MLB All-Star Game 2021

It's time for the midsummer classic game, at Coors Field, and the roster looks like it will be a great competition between the National League All-Stars and American League All-Stars.

As you know from my email to you, our server unexpectedly experienced some problems this week, and the shows from the past couple of days had to be re-added - along with this editorial.

Nobody likes to do a task twice, but on this occasion I was pretty stoked about it, because it meant I could listen again to some baseball old time radio shows, such as Ruth's Homer from the Grantland Rice Story, which raised the question of Babe Ruth's 'calling' his home run against Charlie Root in the third game of the 1932 World Series.

Coincidentally, 13th July 1934 was the finale of The Adventures of Babe Ruth, a series which told in-depth, fully dramatized episodes from Babe Ruth's career, giving a sense of the real man there in the dugout and on the field.

Another show I've re-added today is The Cockeyed Wonder - a baseball comedy which starts in a bar (sounds like Duffy's Tavern), where a fellow is recounting when he played baseball, and the wonder of Lou Thatcher. Lou had never played a game before, but went on to become a powerhouse at batting and one of the greatest basemen in the history of the game. You'll have to listen to find out what his secret weapon was!

There are over 300 baseball themed shows on RUSC. They're spread across all categories from thrilling dramas through comedy, so there's something for everyone.

Alternatively, listen to the RUSC Baseball Radio Station for an action-packed collection of classic old-time radio newsreels, broadcasts, and everything baseball related in-between from the 1930s, 40s and 50s.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
