Terry and the Pirates

Terry and the Pirates

Are you ready to join Terry Lee and his companions in MORE quests for adventure, danger, and triumph?!

Well you're in luck, because I've just found lots more of the shows in our RUSC archive!

Based upon Milton Caniff's iconic comic strip, Terry and the Pirates took to the airwaves in 1937, transporting listeners to the mysterious Orient, and captivating audiences for over a decade with the story of Terry Lee, a fearless teenager searching for adventure amidst a whirlwind of pirates, hidden temples, and international intrigue.

Portrayed at various times by Jackie Kelk, Cliff Carpenter and several others, Terry - along with best pals Pat Ryan, wisecracking Flip Corkin, Connie the Coolie and Hotshot Charlie - fights villains across the Far East, including the beautiful, but ruthless and calculating Dragon Lady - a pirate queen.

Played by actors including Agnes Moorehead and Marion Sweet, the Dragon Lady's sultry voice and cunning schemes kept heroes and listeners on the edge of their seats, forever guessing her next move.

After America's entry into World War II, the show increased in popularity at a fast pace, airing daily for 15 minutes on weekday afternoons, and the Quaker Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice "shot from guns" commercials often had a patriotic pitch.

However, after 1945, with no wartime villains for Terry and his pals to fight, ratings began to drop in the post-World War II period until the final episode on June 30, 1948.

If you crave thrills, chills, and exotic locales, buckle your swashbuckling belt and relive all of the original adventures, right here on RUSC!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
