Kirsten's History Paper

Can you help Kristen?

A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from a young student asking if I could help her with her history paper.

Here's what she wrote:

My name is Kristen. I am currently a junior-year history and broadcasting major. I’m taking an American history class this semester for which I have been assigned an 8-10 page paper. Due to a long standing interest of mine, I have decided to write the paper on the golden years of radio, focusing on how the radio came to be, the different types of shows, and the impact radio had on its listeners (both in the 1930s-50s and today). I feel that 8-10 pages is not even close to long enough to do justice to the early days of radio, and I hope to extend it into my masters thesis in graduate school, and my ultimate goal is to write a book dedicated to the subject. For all this, however, I will need your help.

As a broadcasting major as well as history, I feel that first-hand interviews are just as important, if not more important, than books or websites as sources of information. I contacted Ned Norris earlier this month to see if he would be willing to answer a few questions for me. He suggested that I write up my questions so that he could post them online and ask you all to give me your thoughts on the subject.

The following ten questions are some that I’ve drafted to not only help with the short paper, but to use in my thesis as well. Any answers you have will be invaluable to me, especially if you grew up listening to the radio.

How could I say no?

I know what a great bunch all the members of RUSC are and I know many of you would be happy to help so I put together a little survey made up of Kriten's ten questions. If you can help just click on the link below and you'll be taken to that page.

I'll compile the answers together and send them over to Kristen for her to get going on her paper.

Thanks for your help with this!
