The old romantic himself would have been 125 years old this week, so to celebrate I dug out a show starring old time radio's golden boy.
'Love Is News' is a screwball comedy starring Jack Benny as a crafty reporter using false pretenses to get a story out of an heiress.

Being born on Valentine's Day must have made Jack a bit of an old romantic himself. He had been married for 48 years when he passed away, and every day since he was gone, a single long-stemmed red rose was delivered to his wife, Mary.
She was so overcome with grief after his passing that several weeks had gone by before she thought to question where the roses had been coming from.
Their family florist confessed that, quite a while before Jack passed away, he had stopped at the shop to send a bouquet of flowers to a friend. As he was leaving, he suddenly turned back and said, "David, if anything should happen to me, I want you to send my doll a red rose every day for the rest of her life..." and for nine more years, that wish was upheld.
What a lovely man he was! ❤️️
