Hearts in Harmony

Hearts in Harmony

Broadcast five days a week, and sponsored by the grocery store chain, Kroger, Hearts in Harmony was a soap opera syndicated in the mid-West from 1941 into the 1950s.

It began by telling the story of Steve Parker, an impoverished young man who dreams of being a composer. He falls in love with Penny, a beautiful singer from the other side of the tracks.

Her family are rather affluent, so of course drama and heartbreak follow.

In the earlier shows of the series, there was lots of singing - in fact the characters would sing a song at the piano every other episode - but for whatever reason, one day that just stopped. I'd love to know the reason why they changed the format if any fans know the answer?

The radio shows from the Hearts in Harmony series which are existing, move on from Steve's relationship with Penny, to the life of Penny herself, and the many adventures and scrapes she manages to get herself into.

There are around 295 episodes still left to add to RUSC, but you have 160 there to get you started right now. They're just fifteen minutes long, and I'll warn you now that the series is very addictive!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
