Fibber McGee - The Great Diet Contest

Fibber McGee - The Great Diet Contest

It's a few weeks since Christmas and I don't know about you, but we're still working our way through the chocolate presents!

Not surprising that a common New Year resolution is to lose weight and one that is not always that easy to do.

One of my all-time favorite old-time-radio series is Fibber McGee and Molly and in an episode from January 1955 after a visit to the doctors, Fibber, Molly and Doc Gamble find themselves, not just on Doc's carefully planned diet, all eating the same quantities of the same non-fattening foods, but in a competition to see which of them can lose the most weight in a week!

The capers of the three of them were told each weekday from 12th to 18th January 1955 and you can listen to all of them right here on RUSC:

At the end of the great diet contest, on weigh-in-day you will find out who lost the most poundage to become the winner. There's thirty dollars at stake for the one who has lost the most weight, Will it be Doctor Gamble (who has the most to lose), Molly who has the best control or McGee who has everything and should get rid of some of it!

Be sure to put your radio set on a diet of Fibber McGee and Molly!

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
