Boston Blackie

Boston Blackie

This past week I had another terrific reason to be thankful - well two actually!

One of our lovely RUSC members, Joseph Hodge, sent me an email to let me know that he had two new episodes of Boston Blackie that we don't have in our collection of 191 right now.

Created by author Jack Boyle, Blackie was a tough, wisecracking private detective working in New York, billed as “enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend.” His speciality was making fools of the police, a simple task with Inspector Farraday heading the official investigations.

The thirty minute episodes originally featured Chester Morris in the lead role from June to September 1944, but Richard Kollmar took over the role in 1945 until its finale - some 200 episodes later - in 1949.

Boston Blackie is a series which has always been well-loved on RUSC, and by old time radio fans the world over. In the RUSC charts page, you'll see that the series consistently appears in the top three most popular detective shows.

Honestly, I can't tell you how excited I was to listen to these two missing episodes over the Thanksgiving weekend! I have added them both to RUSC for Tuesday and Thursday this week. I hope you'll enjoy listening to them as much as Joy and I did. Thanks again to Joe!

If there are any other series we have on RUSC where you believe we may have some shows missing, or alternatively, if you have episodes you'd like to share with us, please just let me know. I love to discover old treasures in the RUSC archives.

Happy listening my friends,

Ned Norris
