In the little western town of Stockton, Mary Lowell looked up as her husband, young doctor Douglas Lowell, entered their small home on the edge of town. He was agitated, and Mary just knew right away what the reason was. Just when Doug starts to feel some confidence in himself, Jim Barry turns up again. He swore that he would follow Doug wherever he went, and that if he ever performed another operation, he would kill him. Doug operated on Jim's wife for appendicitis some years back, but it was already too late. Jim took her loss badly, and blamed Doug. So far, he has been true to his word, and has followed Doug from one town to another, gradually reducing him to a nervous wreck.
