The townsmen of Benton were gathered at the small, newly built railroad depot, and all eyes were turned expectantly along the curving tracks that ran eastward from the little town. Suddenly, as the distant sound of a train whistle was heard, they broke into unrestrained cheers! On the edge of the crowd, two men watched silently as the first train to reach Benton over the newly laid tracks, puffed to a stop.
