Twenty-five years after leaving college three friends are invited back for a reunion of alumni of 1940. Two of them are successful yet Simon is a drifter of no fixed abode. He chose the life he did as he was afraid that he may have it in his genes to commit murder. He was afraid of making alliances with anyone after his mother  in a domestic conflict shot his father dead and his brother in a moment of rage killed his employer.
