Countless sun baked miles of travel lay behind the long train of white topped wagons. More miles, studded with unknown dangers lay ahead. The people in those wagons had left a life behind them, and looked forward to a new life in the west. Jim Hatfield led the way, driving his horses from the seat of his prairie schooner. They were headed on the trail to Santa Fe, but according to the guide who Jim had hired, some of the men were causing unrest, believing that they should be following the Oregon Trail instead.
