Booth Wilson is a simple lonely man who is happy to get drunk and end up in jail just because he feels like he has a friend in Chester when he’s there. Then a man named Maples comes in to town with his gallows and stirs the townspeople up with his talk of cleaning up the town and hanging any murderers. He makes Booth think that he is a friend of his but he is prepared to use him as an example.
