John C. Thorpe is a wealthy old man who lives in a luxurious mansion on the shores of Lake Tahoe. He is a widower with two twin nephews who are both lazy and irresponsible. They spend their days drinking, gambling, and womanizing. One day, Thorpe is found dead in his study. He has been shot in the head. The police suspect that one of the newphews killed him.
