The Pirates of Penzance

The Pirates of Penzance

Broadcast: December 11, 1950
Added: Oct 09 2023

A faithful adaptation of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, with all of the classic songs, including Modern Major-GeneralPoor Wandering One, and A Pirate's Life for Me.

The episode opens with Frederic being released from his apprenticeship to a band of pirates. He was mistakenly apprenticed to them on his 21st birthday, and he is now free to go. Frederic is excited to start his new life, and he sets off to find a lovely maiden to marry.

Frederic soon meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. Mabel is immediately smitten with Frederic, and the two young people fall in love. However, their happiness is short-lived, when Frederic learns that he was born on February 29th. This means that he is only legally an adult once every four years, and he is therefore still bound by his apprenticeship to the pirates.
