A comedy written by William Shakespeare, believed to be composed between 1590 and 1592, which tells the tale of Katherina (often called Kate), a strong-willed and outspoken woman labeled a "shrew" by society. Kate's father, Baptista Minola, refuses to allow his younger daughter, Bianca, to marry until Kate is wed. This sparks a competition among suitors for Kate's hand, including the cunning Petruchio.
