The story begins at night outside a railroad station. A lady has just missed the last train that would take her to the house she lives in a few miles outside of the city, so she tries to hail a cab but nobody seems to see her in the pelting rain. She makes it to another cab and is busy talking away to the driver that she doesn't realise until they've already departed that there's someone else in the cab on the back seat...
