Thomas Paine was an English-American political activist, author, political theorist and revolutionary. He was the author of two highly influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, Common Sense and The American Crisis. He was encouraged by Benjamin Franklin to emigrate to the New World, to be a voice of the American Revolution. He inspired the Patriots to declare independence from Britain in 1776.
