It was the dust, the heat was bad enough in Dodge City but out on the plain it was the dust. The sun was a burning red round chip in the sky and the sweat on a man never had a chance to dry. It was blotted and dried with dust. Doc, Chester and Marshall Dillon had ridden to old man Gore’s place ten miles out as he had had some trouble with one of the hands that had gone loco with the liquor and was shooting up the cattle.
