With Fresno and his vicious crew turned over to the United States Marshall and with Apache Kid's reputation redeemed, Red Ryder and Little Beaver have returned to Painted Valley. As we join them, they're on their way to Devil's Hole bank to draw the payroll for the current month, but already pulling into Devil's Hole are Mary Rutledge and her younger brother Geoff, in town to tend their chores and do their monthly banking.
