It was a dark night and the ground mist lay heavy on the range land. The Lone Ranger and Tonto had made their camp near the edge of the canyon. They were about to roll up in their blankets, when Silver whinnied a warning. Without waiting to saddle Silver, the masked man leaped onto his back and pushed him forward to intercept a galloping chestnut, as the man wouldn't have seen the yawning chasm of the canyon ahead. The Lone Ranger studied the man, and finally listened to his story about his previous work on the construction of the railroad, which the man insisted was corrupt.
