The story today opens in an FBI field office two days before Christmas, and special agent Jim Taylor has just handed his final report to the agent in charge, before he is due to finish for the holidays. However, as he is leaving, he is confronted by a young man who is desperate to find a missing person, Santa Claus. It's not the real Santa, of course, but the man's name is Mr Norton, and he is missing from the settlement house.
