It is just before Christmas and Pat and Alicia Adams had said every hateful, hot word to each other that they could. There was nothing more to say. Alicia wanted to become a star and thought she could do it better without Pat so Pat agrees to give her a divorce. Pat was driving them back from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, when a hit and run driver crashed them off a bridge but at least they were both alive. They see a light in the distance and head towards the house where a kindly gentleman is expecting them. Pat and Alicia are surprised that the strange old man thinks that they are dead. They come to realise that having each other is the best Christmas present.
