Late one afternoon, two horsemen rode side by side over the winding trail that led to Martin's Point. Although it was winter, the ground was still free of snow - an unusual thing for this time of year in Montana country. A badge marked one of the horsemen as the Sheriff, while his companion - hatless in spite of the cold - was distinguished by a shock of coarse, red hair. The Sheriff's features were fixed in an angry scowl while the other man grinned at him...
