The trail from Melton to Black Hawk split at Summit Rock. To the left, a wide and deeply rutted road dropped down the divide and led to the mining town's Main Street. On the right, a vague trail rambled off to the tiny dead end valley at the bottom of Pelican Peak mountain. Ken Albright and his partner, Tucker Barnes, halted their double wagon when they reached Summit Rock, and Tucker dismounted to head down to Pelican Peak to deliver some drills to old man Weaver, who had lived down in the valley for some time now.
