The Lone Ranger had made a long and tiring trip, and poor Silver was in need of water, so when the masked man neared the town of Needle Point and came within the sight of Amy Holken's home, he paused to remove his mask and disguise his face. Thus prepared, he approached the house, and as our story begins we hear him in conversation with Amy.
