Outpost In Despair

There were only a handful of men in the army outpost, but they stood at attention, waiting for the sunset gun. As the colors came down, a group of men and a number of steers waited in the shelter of a clump of cottonwoods, on a hill that overlooked the stockade. They were planning to take the outpost by force, using the steers as a decoy so that the troops would believe them to be honest wranglers.
