Miss Mary Wesley is riding the elevator to her apartment on the  twenty-fifth floor. When the elevator doors open she stops a woman from trying to kill her self jumping from the building. When Boston Blackie arrives he discovers the woman is called Janice Larson and the reason she wants to end her life is because a man named Oscar Wolfe is causing trouble for her. Boston Blackie visits the office of Oscar Wolfe to try to find out what he's up to. Blackie threatens Wolf that if he doesn't keep away from his friends he'll go so far as to even kill him. Everything he said is recorded on a Dictaphone. The next day Oscar Wolfe is discovered dead and Blackie is incriminated by the Dictaphone message.

 Blackie threatens Oscar Wolfe. His threat is recorded on a dictating machine. When Wolfe is killed the next day, Blackie becomes a fugitive wanted for murder!.
