William Powell reprises his original 1932 Warner Brothers screen roll of Dan Hardesty. Dan and Joan Ames met in a Shanghai bar and are immediately attracted to each other but each know in their own hearts they can never be. He is an escaped convict and she has a terminal illness. When Dan is re-arrested by detective Steve Burke he is taken on the next ship to America. Dan and Joan meet again, on board the ship to San Francisco, and fall in love but Joan doesn't know he is bound for Sam Quentin Prison. When he tells her that he has to go to Mexico on business Joan makes Dan agree to meet her in Acapulco on New Years Eve but neither are destined to make it.

At the end of the program William Powell introduces his director Tay Garnett who talks a little about the making of the film on board a ship.
