Ken Morton had owned the Bar X ranch for only four months. He was a hard, stern, businesslike man, and as he talked to his foreman, Leo Bowman, his look was grim. He is keen to cut down on expenses, and paying the wages of ranch hands he feels they don't need. Haven and Tony Brown will be the first to go. But the real shock, is that he wants to also get rid of Old Poncho, who has been on the ranch for many, many years. Ken also doesn't appreciate that his young son, Billy, has spent all of his time during the past four months with Old Poncho, and the two have a special friendship.
