The Apache drums had been echoing through the hills every night, and when Silver whinnied, the Lone Ranger and Tonto immediately put out their small camp fire. A moment later, they heard slow hoof beats heading through the woods toward their clearing. They led Silver and Scout into the cover of the trees, and then waited ... their guns ready. A single horseman rode into the camp and dismounted beside the remains of their campfire. The Lone Ranger stepped forward and the man immediately asked for him to not shoot, introducing himself as a lone traveler who had lost his way. A few minutes later, the campfire was rebuilt and Tonto was back to preparing dinner. The Lone Ranger recognized the man, a war hero, but the man was humble, and felt only shame about his past... Regardless, the Lone Ranger asked him to stay with them, so that he could safely travel to the nearby Fort, where he son was stationed.
