With the help of his secretary, Mary, Jack tries to solve the mystery and clear his name. A parody of the popular detective fiction of the time, it featured many of the genre's tropes. There was a mysterious stranger, a dark and stormy night, and a number of possible suspects. Jack Benny played the role of the bumbling detective, who was always one step behind the killer.
