When Matt and Doc are at the general store, the store owner catches Neil Amber stealing a sack of seeds. He's a desperate man, and he and his wife are near starving out at their little plot of land north of Dodge. The land is good, and Matt can't understand why they've had so much bad luck. First, Pete Fletcher's cattle trampled their crops, then two of their goats swelled up and died, and someone shot their horse. It seems like too many cases of bad luck...
