It is 8 hours before the New Year. Hughes is going to visit his ailing second cousin, a scientist, who claims to have invented a time machine. Hughes' cousin has only a few days left to live due to an incurable heart condition and wants to do everything that he has ever wanted to do on what he thinks is his last day, including murdering Hughes.
