Lum thought he had a way to get out of his mistaken engagement with Lulu Watt when he discovered that a mill hand named Knuckles was secretly in love with Lulu and leaving town because he didn't have a chance to win her and Lum sent Cedric out to tell Lum to stay and fight for his girl. However, Knuckles took it literally and is now planning to fight Lum!

Despite this being announced as the last show of the series it actually came back on the air after Lum and Abner appealed at the end of the show to ask everyone to write to the American Broadcasting System to keep them on the air.
