Luigi is thinking so much about the cold as his landlord Pasquale, who is also supposed to be his friend, won't put the heat on because Luigi owes him two months rent. The only thing that will make Pasquale put the heat on is if Luigi marries his "fat" daughter Rosa. Luigi is suffering with a cold but he will not agree to marry Rosa and when Pasquale won't give him any steam Luigi swears that he will never speak to him again until his mother tells him to and it looks as though he plans to stick to his threat as even when Pasquale gives him the steam Luigi refuses to speak to Pasquale. Oh no, Pasquale misses his friend and even Luigi begins to wish he'd never sworn never to speak to Pasquale. If only he could speak to his mamma.
