It wasn’t the first time that McCluny had asked Doc to test some of the ore that he had mined in the hills for gold and he told Doc that he didn’t have the money to pay for it testing. Also Mimi complained to McCluny that she hadn’t been paid for doing his washing six months ago. He told her he’s simply forgot and that he would pay her for two washes after she offered to do his latest wash. Then when Doc goes over to take him the results of his test on his fools gold he discovers he has been murdered. It seems like someone believed he really was wealthy.
