The story begins in Berlin in 1933, and is the story of Martin Niemöller. The Nazi's needed the prominent Protestant pastor to endorse their party for the elections, as his voice was one which carried into every church in the country, and would result in the Nazi party securing the Christian vote in Germany. But instead, Martin Niemöller dared to stand up to Hitler, and because of it, spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps. He is perhaps best known for his quotation:-

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
