Adele Smith is worried about her husband. He is only 65 retired and they have plenty of money and all the future to enjoy yet he seems to be sufferering from paranoia and a persecution complex fearing that someone wants to kill him. Henry thinks it is a judgement upon him. Daughter-in-law Maria Smith is a nurse and moves in to look after her father-in-law Henry and discovers some terrible secrets about him which she believes he must face up to if he is to get well.  .
