Our story opens on the deck of a luxury liner bound from Honolulu to San Francisco. Jessica Blair is a rather spoiled socialite, whose only worry right now is that there may be war ahead which would disrupt her plans to travel to the Orient. The only interest she has on the ship right now is the presence of another passenger - government geologist Steven Wallace - who has been Jessica's constant companion throughout the voyage.
