Jim Jackson was eighteen, but he was small for his age, and so thin that people thought he was a couple of years younger. The horse he rode was one that was considered an outlaw. It was a big horse that seemed to hate all men - a horse that had been spoiled by mistreatment. Jim had bought the strong animal for practically nothing, and learned to stay in the saddle. However, he had warned everyone to stay away from his horse, but young Jeff ignored him and tried to ride him.
