John Bradford was a stubborn man. When he established a stage and freight line in Sunville, he had made money by leaps and bounds - a large amount of which he used to buy a large ranch, which spread for miles on the east side of town. Bradford had hired a good ranch foreman who had run the ranch successfully, but Bradford spent most of his time running his stage and freight line. One day an agent for the railroad had come to Bradford's office accompanied by a few of the influential towns men. After hearing what the agent had to say, John Bradford spoke forcefully, to let the man know that there was no way he would ever let a railroad run across his land - and that was that!
