Just at dawn, the man climbed the scaffold - his hands tied behind him and a deputy sheriff following. The noose was fitted around his neck. Judge Martin called from below the scaffold to ask if the man had any last words - to which he replied that he was innocent. However, he had been caught red-handed in this crime, but the people knew he was only one in a band of outlaws who had been terrorizing the trail. From the man's last words, they began calling the gang "The Innocents", and the name was on everyone's lips for the next month, because after the hanging, there were more and more hold-ups and murders...
